Thoughtful estate planning is a valuable contribution to family and friends. While the law provides for an orderly distribution of assets in the event of a passing without a will, it places a burden on those left behind. Our firm helps clients prepare for this life transition through careful and thorough planning. We recommend wills, health care directives and powers of attorney for all of our clients, and the process is a relatively simple one. In many cases, we are able to provide this service entirely electronically and therefore at a very reasonable cost. We have developed an
estate planning checklist as well as a
glossary of estate planning terms to help clients start the process.
Johnson Law Group works closely with executors and personal representatives to administer estates, including filing petitions for probate, developing estate inventories and accountings, and closing estates.
We are particularly knowledgeable about juvenile financial guardianships and the needs of families with dependents with special needs.

Johnson Law Group has focused much effort on the enforcement of federal and state rights to free and appropriate public education services for children with special needs. We represent individual families with questions about how best to ensure that local school districts provide individualized instruction designed to enable their children to succeed. In many cases, we work to connect families with exceptionally qualified educational and related service providers and represent families in due process proceedings under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The firm was instrumental in filing the landmark special education case, Petties et al. v. District of Columbia, et al. in 1995, and has served as counsel to the plaintiff class for most of that time.
Judicial proceedings in the United States are expensive and time-consuming. They also are necessary from time to time. Johnson Law Group has more than 20 years of litigation experience in federal, state and administrative courts. While our approach is first to identify solutions for solving legal needs without resort to formal proceedings, our team has the experience to represent our clients in them.
